The Piégu et al. (2015) classification schema seeks to bring under one classification system most ,if not all, mobile and selfish DNA across the Tree of Life. Inspired by the classification schema proposed by Curcio and Derbyshire (2003), it is rooted in the phylogenetic relatedness of mobile elements, with the recognition that similar phenotypic traits at the element-level may have been convergent, and that mobile elements exhibit a modularity as to how they have evolved.
